Elisabeth Schweigaard Selmer

Elisabeth Schweigaard Selmer ( born October 18, 1923 in Oslo, † 18 June 2009) was a Norwegian conservative politician and lawyer.

The daughter of Niels Anker Stang Schweigaard and Betty Reimers studied from 1942 to 1949 law. She was from 1965 to 1970 the first Norwegian Minister of Justice. She supported here mainly the introduction of the national rescue service and reached the repeal of § 16 of the Løsgjengerlov, a law dating from 1900 against vagrants and beggars, up to this time, drunkenness was criminalized in public by the. From 1970 to 1990 she was a judge at the Supreme Court.

She was a member of the Norwegian Academy for Language and Literature and was from 1982 to 1990 the Norwegian Nobel Committee to. She was commander of the St. Olav's Order.
