Elizabeth Eaton

Elizabeth A. Eaton ( born April 2, 1955 in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American Lutheran bishop. She is Senior Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America ( ELCA ).

Eaton studied at the College of Wooster, where she earned a bachelor's degree in music education, and at the Harvard Divinity School, where she graduated with a Master of Divinity. After ordination in 1981, she worked in the ELCA congregations in Worthington (Ohio ), Youngstown ( Ohio) and Ashtabula until they leave the office as Bishop of the Northeastern Ohio Synod took in the ELCA in January 2007. On 14 August 2013, it was chosen by the Church Wide Assembly of the ELCA to the new Chief Bishop. She sat there with 600 to 287 votes against the incumbent office holder by Mark Hanson. The Office as Senior Bishop, which is initially limited to six years, she appeared on 1 November 2013.

Eaton is married to Conrad Selnick, a priest of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America, and has with him two daughters.
