Elizabeth Murray (artist)

Elizabeth Murray ( born September 6, 1940 in Chicago, † August 12 2007 in New York) was an American artist. She reached her popularity in the 1970s. While, however, is hardly known in Europe, it has already achieved in the U.S. as an artist firmly established.

Work and work

The artist presented one of the first women together a historiographical revision to modern artistic concepts. Throughout her research she gathered new knowledge about Kazimir Malevich, Piet Mondrian, Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky.

Your own style combined elements of Cubism and Surrealism. Especially her puzzle style was considered unique. So that you addressed the internal fragility of man.

Elizabeth Murray exhibited in New York at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA ). In 1999, she was MacArthur Fellow.

She died at the age of 66 from lung cancer.
