Elizabeth van der Woude

Elizabeth van der Woude ( born January 11, 1657 Niedorp, † 1694, Amsterdam) was a Dutch traveler and author.

At age 21, Elizabeth emigrated with her family (father Harman van der Woude, brother, sister ) and 50 service personnel in the Dutch colony in present-day Guyana from. At the crossing of the Atlantic already father and sister also many of the service personnel died in the new home then, even though they found good land and friends with the locals. She was soon on the way back, but was it attacked by pirates and taken prisoner. Nevertheless, she managed to return to his homeland. About her experiences she kept a diary, which was published in 2001 in the Netherlands.
