Niedorp

Niedorp ( listen / i?) ( West Frisian: Nierup ) is a former municipality in the Dutch province of North Holland, of West Friesland.

The community Niedorp is January 1, 2012, merged together with the municipalities Anna Pavlovna, Wieringen and Wieringermeer, to the community of Holland Kroon.

Location and economic

The community is located west of Wieringermeer, north of Heerhugowaard and east of Schagen, where is the nearest railway station.

Through the community run several small channels, initially mainly by inland navigation, now used by the water sports tourism. Main source of income of the village is still agriculture.

History

The place names of Oude and Nieuwe Niedorp came in 1298 in a document before. In 1415 the villages were given a limited municipal law ( Stede Niedorp ). In 1904, a monastery was built, which was used, inter alia, of the Poor Clares; The building now serves as an educational institution for foreign student priests.

Barsingerhorn, which was first documented in 890 and developed from a series of mounds with farms gradually into an elongated dike village, and Haringhuizen belonged in the Middle Ages to the glory of Schagen.

Kolhorn, a former fishing village that lay at the Zuiderseeküste before the draining of the Wieringermeer, in the 17th century was a transshipment port for VOC ships. Between 1890 and 1930 the catch of large amounts anchovies or anchovy brought some prosperity to the village. Later, the fishing port was converted into a marina.

Attractions

  • The municipality promotes cycling in the area and provides visitors to handout with references available.
  • There are some small museums, one for perfume bottles in angle and one for motorcycles in Nieuwe Niedorp.
  • Barsingerhorn has is a remarkable former Town Hall from the 17th century.
