Elmer Dyer

Elmer Dyer ( born August 24, 1892 in Lawrence, Kansas, † February 8, 1970 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American cinematographer who specialized in aerial photography.

Life

Dyer began his career as a cameraman at the beginning of the 1920s. In the late 1920s, he specialized in aerial photography. Here, he frequently collaborated with the stunt pilot Paul Mantz. During the Second World War he worked for the First Motion Picture Unit of the U.S. Army. In later years he founded his own library of stock footage.

Together with his colleague James Wong Howe and Charles A. Marshall Dyer 1944 was nominated for the camera work on the film In the Japanese sun for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography.
