Emil Bobu

Emil Bobu ( born February 22, 1927 in Vîrfu Cîmpului, Suceava County ) was a Romanian politician of the Romanian Communist Party ( PCR).

Life

Originally from a farming family Bobu worked after school at first in agriculture and joined in November 1945 as a member of the PCR, a. Between 1954 and 1956 he completed a part-time study of law at the University of Bucharest. Subsequently, he was a functionary of the PCR and was 1961-1972 President of the Council county of Suceava. In May 1961 he was awarded the Medal for the 40th Anniversary of the PCR and elected as a deputy in the Grand National Assembly.

His rise within the party hierarchy began after he was 1972-1973 Advisor to the Secretary General of the PCR, Nicolae Ceauşescu. Initially he was between March 1973 and March 1975 as successor of Ion Stănescu Interior Minister and in this capacity also member of the Defence Council of the Socialist Republic of Romania, one of the highest bodies of the Socialist Republic and the relevant body for matters of national defense. On the Eleventh Congress of the PCR in November 1974 he became a member of the Political Executive Committee.

Between March 1975 and February 1979, he was Secretary for Legal and Military of the Central Committee (CC ) of the PCR and was also in the same time also vice president of the State Council, while Teodor Coman new Minister of Interior. On the Twelfth Congress of the PCR in November 1979 he was elected a member of the Permanent Bureau of the Political Executive Committee, making it one next to Nicolae and Elena Ceauşescu and Gheorghe Rădulescu and Constantin Dăscălescu to unangefochtensten and most powerful people in the senior management committee of the party to the Romanian revolution in December 1989 onwards.

Moreover, the Grand Cross of the Order of Infante Dom Henrique, he was awarded on 21 October 1975.

After the Revolution, charges were brought against him. On February 2, 1990 Emil Bobu was sentenced to life imprisonment along with Manea Mănescu, Tudor Postelnicu and Ion Dincă. Later this sentence was reduced to ten years of imprisonment, followed by five years' deprivation of political rights.
