Emil Kopp

Emil Kopp ( born March 3 1817 in Wasselnheim (Alsace ), † November 30, 1875 in Zurich ) was a German chemist.

Life

In 1847, Kopp was appointed professor of toxicology and chemistry at the École supérieure de pharmacie the University of Strasbourg. Two years later he was appointed professor of physics and chemistry at the Lausanne Academy, but worked from 1852 again as a chemist in a Alizarinfabrik near Manchester. 1868 Kopp was appointed Professor of Technology in Turin and worked from 1871 until his death as professor of chemical engineering at the ETH Zurich. There he discovered, inter alia, the coal tar dye aurantia.

Kopp died on 30 November 1875 in Zurich.
