Émile Chautard

Émile Chautard (* 1881, † April 24, 1934 in Los Angeles, USA) was a French actor, director and screenwriter of the silent era.

Life

Chautard began as a stage actor at the Théâtre de l' Odéon in Paris. He worked for the film company Éclair, when he became director in 1910 and director of the theater school. 1915 Chautard was sent together with his colleague Maurice Tourneur of Éclair in the United States. For Chautard began a successful career as a director in the awakening American film business. Between 1910 and 1924, he directed 107 films directed and worked 1911-1934 in 66 films as an actor with, so among other things in Morocco ( 1930) and Shanghai Express ( 1932) by Josef von Sternberg.

Chautard was until 1920 with Alice Archainbaud, daughter of French film director George Archainbaud married.
