Émile Vuillermoz

Émile Vuillermoz, actually Émile -Jean -Joseph Vuillermoz (* May 23, 1878 in Lyon, Rhône region; † 2 March 1960 in Paris) was a French film and music critic.

Life

After leaving school in his hometown learned Vuillermoz organ and piano and studied in parallel jurisprudence and literature. Later he went to Paris and became a student at the Conservatoire de Paris; among other things, he learned harmony with Antoine Taudou and composition with Gabriel Fauré.

Through his friendship with Ravel, he came up with the artist group Les Apaches in contact and there was also a member. 1909 founded the Société musicale Vuillermoz indépendante and international for the magazine "Revue musicale " Société de musique, he served as editor until 1911. He also wrote regularly for newspapers and magazines, such as " L' Eclair ", " L' Illustration ", " Le Mercure ", " Le Temps ", etc. Vuillermoz is considered the first film critic France. In addition to his purely journalistic work as a film and music critic or his books over the years was also a small work as a composer.

About the music he made, among others, the acquaintance with Ravel and was equal to a member of the artist group Les Apaches.

Vuillermoz died three months before his 82nd birthday in Paris and found his final resting place.
