Emilio Álvarez (footballer)

Emilio Walter Álvarez ( born February 10, 1939 in Montevideo, † April 22, 2010 ) was a Uruguayan football player.

Club career

The Cococho called Álvarez played throughout his career almost exclusively for Nacional, for which he was already active in 1954 and earned championship honors for youth times in all teams. In La Liga he made his debut in 1959 under coach Ondino Viera and wore the jersey Nacional's to 1970. With the study completed in this time 511 games for Nacional he is in this respect record holder. Álvarez was honored with the name Mister Wembley, because in 1963 during a game in London's Wembley Stadium to mark the centenary of the English league as Uruguayan representative for the team "Rest of World " aground. After his career Álvarez also worked as a functionary of his former club Nacional.
