Emma Kirkby

Dame Emma Kirkby, Carolyn ( born February 26, 1949 in Cambridge ) is an English soprano.

Life

1968 Emma Kirkby began her studies in classical philology at Oxford and also took singing lessons with Jessica Cash. She then worked as a teacher. For fun, she sang in choirs and small groups. Their preference was for the Renaissance and Baroque music.

In 1971 she joined the Taverner Choir in 1973 and began their long affiliation with the Consort of Musicke.

She held her debut concert in London in 1974 and then specialized in historical performance practice. She made recordings with the Taverner Choir and the Academy of Ancient Music, at a time when it was not yet customary to adjust the soprano voice of the instruments of early music. The world's sought-after interpreter also works regularly with leading Baroque ensembles such as the London Baroque Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the panel Music Toronto.

2007 was raised Emma Kirkby by Queen Elizabeth II knighted ( " Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire" ).
