Emmanuel Célestin Suhard

Emmanuel Célestin Cardinal Suhard ( born April 5, 1874 in Brains -sur -les- Marches, Mayenne, France, † May 30, 1949 in Paris) was a Catholic archbishop of Paris.

Life

Emmanuel Célestin Suhard was ordained a priest in 1897 in Laval. In 1928 he was appointed Bishop of Bayeux and Lisieux. He received his episcopal consecration on October 3, 1928, the then Bishop of Laval, Eugène- Jacques Grellier.

1930 Suhard was appointed Archbishop of Reims. On 16 December 1935 he was instituted by Pope Pius XI. elevated to Cardinal and included as a cardinal priest with the titular church of S. Onofrio in the College of Cardinals. On 11 May 1940 he was Archbishop of Paris.

Emmanuel Célestin Suhard founded 1941, the Mission de France.
