Emory S. Bogardus

Emory Stephen Bogardus (* February 21, 1882 near Belvidere, Illinois; † August 21, 1973 ) was an American sociologist and 21st president of the American Sociological Association.

Bogardus put 1908 Bachelor Exam and 1909, the Master degree from Northwestern University and became in 1910 at the University of Chicago for the Ph.D. doctorate. In 1911 he became professor of sociology at the University of Southern California.

1925 presented Bogardus, who conducted research on the sociology addition to social psychology, which he developed scale of social distance, a Guttman scale. This is a method for measurement of settings.

He officiated in 1931 as president of the American Sociological Association.
