Emperor Montoku

Kaiser Montoku (Japanese文 徳 天皇, Montoku - tennō; * 827, † 27 August 858) was the 55th Tenno of Japan. He reigned from 850 to 858 He was the first son of the Emperor Nimmyō and a daughter of Fujiwara no Fuyutsugu. His proper name was Michiyasu.

848 he was Crown Prince. In his government Fujiwara no Yoshifusa strengthened his power. Yoshifusa married his daughter with Montoku, and Prince Korehito was born of her. It was the beginning of time in which the Fujiwara clan came to power.
