Empire (apple)

Intersection of McIntosh x Red Delicious

Empire is the name of a type of apple.

The strain was developed in 1945 as a cross between a McIntosh with the variety 'Red Delicious at the Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva. In 1966 the plant was put on the market.

The flesh of this variety is greenish white, firm, sweet and crisp. The shell has a light green color, the top color is a bright shade of red

The variety shall be deemed to be quite robust against fire blight and mildew, but is slightly susceptible to scab.
