Endre Szervánszky

Endre Szervánszky (* December 27 1911 in Kistétény, † June 25, 1977 in Budapest) was a Hungarian composer.

Life

Endre Szervánszky is the artist's brother Jenő Szervánszky and a violinist Péter Szervánszky. He is also the uncle of pianist Valéria Szervánszky. He studied from 1922 to 1927 clarinet at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. From 1931 he studied composition with Albert Siklos then in Budapest. He worked for the Hungarian Radio and taught from 1942 to 1948 music theory at the Conservatory. In 1948 he became professor of composition. His music has been influenced by Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály. Later he devoted himself to serial music. His composition Six Orchestral Pieces ( 1959) was the first Hungarian plant after the war in twelve-tone technique. During the Second War, he saved Jews from deportation and was awarded in 1998 as a Righteous Among the Nations.
