EnergyBus

EnergyBus is an open standard for all electrical components of light electric vehicles and other stationary power management systems. It includes a communications and energy transfer bus and an associated connector system. The data transfer is based on the CAN bus accurately on the CANopen protocol. The data transfer is defined in the CANopen application profile CiA -454 eV and for members of the EnergyBus and the CAN in Automation eV accessible. With the publication of an international ISO / IEC standards are expected towards the end of 2014.

Original and primary object of the development was the LEV components, but EnergyBus is also used in stationary energy management systems. The first applications were realized by Fraunhofer ISE.

EnergyBus is a registered association ( eV EnergyBus ) supported and specified by the members and partners. Members are both individuals as well as a manufacturer of electric bicycle components such as connectors, batteries, controllers and power units ( including Bosch, Panasonic, Sanyo, German Bahn AG, Philips and Varta ).

The current goal of EnergyBus initiative is to create a standardized charging infrastructure for E -Bikes, Pedelecs and other LEVs ( Light Electric Vehicle).

Benefit

EnergyBus offers the user a safe charger ( without explosions and fires) for different battery types. At a dc voltage of up to 48 V and a current up to a power of 40 A to 1.9 kW can be released. It is Plug'n'play systems where additional batteries or loads can be easily plugged. Thanks to the communication between the individual components of the energy transfer will only be activated if it is ensured that all participants work with the current voltage. Since the year 2013, a charger is available that via the communication interface negotiated battery charging voltage up to 56 V and 10 A can provide almost infinitely.

For component manufacturers EnergyBus offers the advantage that its components are "compatible" with many other components. System integration is massively easier. So the customer can be offered by the system integrator more at a lower cost. The offered system is upgradeable for example, for an extra battery or new battery chemistry.

For the development of EnergyBus - compatible components are pre-fabricated software libraries.

The first applications

  • EBike pulse of TourDeSuisse (TDS )
  • Elektragil system
  • Components of motor ( Elektragil ), bike light ( Phillips ), battery ( HighTech Energy), charger ( pironex ), Human Interface ( Marquardt )
  • Fraunhofer ISE island systems
  • First charging stations for pedelec users

Standard on several levels

  • Physics: Male / Female
  • An information bus system for communication of modules in electrical systems such as battery, charger, consumer (motor), generator ( generator, PV, ... ) with defined messages and defined sequences of messages
  • Attributes and values of each type of device

To this end, more than 10 device types are defined.

The organization
