Engelbert III, Count of Gorizia

Engelbert III. of Gorizia († 1220 ) was a Count of the family of Meinhardiner. He ruled between the years 1191 and 1220 the County of Gorizia.

Engelbert's parents were my hardi African Mark and Count Palatine Engelbert II and Adelaide of Scheyern Valley, daughter of Count Otto I of the House of Wittelsbach. In 1191 he took over the government of Gorizia, which was his younger brother Meinhard II after his death. During his reign, Engelbert of Gorizia assumed the title of a reeve of Aquileia. In addition, he also acted as bailiff of Millstatt.

In 1183 he married a noblewoman named Machteld, and in 1190 Matilda of Andechs, Countess of Pisino, daughter of Count Berthold III. of Andechs, Margrave of Istria. By this marriage he inherited his family the title of bailiff to Parenzo and Mitterburg. This second marriage produced Meinhard III. of Gorizia and Tyrol and especially unnamed daughter.
