Englynion y Beddau

Englynion y Beddeu [ eŋ'lənjon ɘ ' BEDEI ] (" The verses of the tombs "), even Englynion y Beddau ( welsh Beddau = " grave ") is the title of a group of poems about tombs. Linguist date these poems in the 9-10. Century, a manuscript is but you Caerfyrddin ( " The Black Book of Carmarthen " ) included only from the 13th century in Llyfr, namely a collection of 73 such poems. In 1600 ( " The Red Book of Hergest " ) were further collected in Llyfr Coch Hergest.

Englynion y Beddeu lists the tombs of famous Welsh heroes in englyn form ( see below). One deals with the grave lay of King Arthur, with other characters from the Mabinogion, like Dylan Eil Ton, Pryderi or Llew Llaw Gyffes or British heroes like Rhydderch Hael. However, only very few of the listed places are actually located. However, the collection is very important because many allusions occur to the contents of lost legends and myths of the Celts of Britain in the individual poems.
