Ennemond Gaultier

Ennemond Gaultier ( Gautier le Vieux, Gaultier de Lyon) (* 1575 in Villette, Dauphiné, † December 17, 1651 in Neves ) was a French lutenist and composer.

He initially worked in Lyon and was promoted in 1620 to the valet of the queen mother Maria de 'Medici and Hoflautenisten in Paris. Maybe he was a student of René Mézangeaus. In 1631 he retired to Neves, where he spent the rest of his life.

His cousin Denis Gaultier published in 1669 a pressure which also contained lute compositions of Ennemond - the assignment to one of the two as a writer is difficult. This is also true for other collections in which works under the name " Gaultier " appeared. The works certainly had great influence on the development of lute music of the following years.
