Career

Borja started his active career as a player at the UNAM Pumas and felt there as well that he never wanted to work for another club. But then the wealthy Club América wanted him unconditionally and came up with UNAM in agreement over his transfer. Borja did not want to accept this, so that it came to an employment tribunal proceedings. This ended with the judgment that Borja had to comply with the change. At Club América Borja became an icon and in the early 1970s, three times in a row scorer of the Mexican League, where he hit a total of 70 times in three years: 1970/71 he scored 24 goals, 1971/72 even 26 and 1972 / 73 he was top scorer with 20 of his country.

Borja came in more than 60 games for Mexico for use, scoring more than 30 hits. In his debut on May 11, 1966 against the national team of Chile, he scored the winning goal for the 1-0 final score in their fourth game minute. The barely 20-year old Borja was also one of the great stars of the Mexicans at the World Cup staged in England in 1966. Together with his colleague Aarón Padilla, who also was at that time at UNAM under contract, he made the striking duo of Mexicans in the group scored only one goal and had to return home without a win after the first round. The only World Cup goal, incidentally succeeded Borja during the game against the selection of France (1:1), where the Mexican television commentator Fernando Marcos, himself a former player and coach, must have gone through all the ups and downs, " Borja, not fail. Do not fail! Goal for Mexico. "

When four years later discharged at home 1970 World Cup Borja, who now stood with America under contract and over the next three seasons each scorer should be belonged not to the outstanding players. He missed the opening game against the Soviet Union, played against El Salvador only half time, was missing again against Belgium and came off the bench in the quarter-final against Italy in the 69th minute only. Thus, he played a total of only 66 minutes in which he managed not a single hit.
