Ensemble Micrologus

Ensemble Micrologus is an Italian music group that specializes in the music of the Middle Ages in historical performance practice.

History and style

Micrologus Ensemble was founded in 1984. The name derives was a music- theoretical work from the 11th century, the Micrologus. The founding members knew each other through the many years of participation in the Calendimaggio - Medieval Festival in Assisi, Italy. The founding members were:

  • Patrizia Bovi (vocals, harp)
  • Adolfo Broegg (lute, psaltery, Citole, † 2006)
  • Goffredo Degli Esposti (flute, bombard, bagpipe )
  • Gabriele Russo ( fiddle, rebec, Lyra )

Other project-related members of the ensemble are Borgioni Mauro (vocals, dulcimer ), Gabriele Miracle ( psaltery, tambourine ), Ulrich Pfeifer (vocals, hurdy gurdy ) and Enea Sorini (vocals, percussion, psaltery ). The repertoire of the ensemble includes Micrologus religious and secular music from the period between the 12th and the 16th century. The group plays on reconstructions of old instruments and also uses contemporary costumes and stage decorations. In addition, the group in various educational institutions as well as in the ensemble 's own cultural Centro Studi Europeo di Musica Medievale Adolfo Broegg taught medieval music. In 1991 the ensemble Micrologus created the soundtrack to the film Mediterraneo.
