Ensemble Organum

The Ensemble Organum is a vocal ensemble of ancient music, which specializes in the interpretation of music of the Middle Ages.

It was founded in 1982 by Marcel Pérès in the Abbey of Sénanque and was built in the sequence at the Abbaye de Royaumont into a major ensemble in the interpretation of medieval music. Since 2001, the lineup has its headquarters at the Saint-Pierre Abbey in Moissac; it is flexible in its membership structure whereby members from around the world have brought their own musical traditions.

The ensemble's repertoire extends from traditional songs from the early days of Christianity, preforms of Gregorian chant, and literature of medieval tradition from the 20th century. A large role in the interpretation of play findings from the ancient performance practice, which had members of the ensemble worked in long-term studies of traditions from different regions.
