History

Enstone was originally performed as Henestan in the Domesday Book of 1086 and as Enestan or Ennestan in records at Winchcombe Abbey from 1185. While there are different views on the origin of the word Enstone, it is assumed that it is Anglo-Saxon origin. The faith of the general public is that the word Enna 's stone is called - " a stone from a man named Enna ", although it is also the view that the words "ent and Stan" - literally mean huge stone. These stones are located on the corner of Charlbury Fulwell road, where you can see trees between the three standing stones. The tallest stone is almost three meters high. There are other stones in Lidstone, Broadstone Hill and Rollright.
