Entandrophragma is a common in tropical Africa deciduous tree species of the mahogany family Cucurbitaceae ( Meliaceae ). Some species are important as supplier quality wood.
Description
The species of the genus Entandrophragma are trees that usually achieve great heights of growth and grow in the emergent layer. The leaves are pinnate, the leaflets are not further subdivided.
The plants are dioecious. The flowers are in paniculate inflorescences. The five sepals are fused together at the base. The five petals are already looking out in the bud from the chalice. The ten stamens are fused into a tube. The ovary is fünfkammrig, he develops into a woody capsule fruit. The central axis of the capsule ( columella ) is a pentagon in cross section.
