Epameinondas Thomopoulos

Epaminondas Thomopoulos (Greek Επαμεινώνδας Θωμόπουλος; * 1878 in Patra, † January 4, 1976 in Athens ) was a Greek painter and university professor.

Thomopoulos studied painting in Italy. He was one of the early Greek Impressionists. For many years, Thomopoulos professor at the School of Fine Arts Athens and its director from 1948 to 1949. Previously, he had been elected in 1945 to the Academy of Athens and in 1962 he was president of the Academy.

Most of his works are inspired by nature. Many of his paintings can be found in the National Gallery of Greece in Athens and the Municipal Gallery of Patras. 1996 honored him with the city of Patra a major retrospective. One of his best known works is the oil painting "The beginning of Autumn".
