Kaiserbär ( Phragmatobia luctifera )

The Kaiserbär or Trauerbär ( Phragmatobia luctifera ) is a butterfly (moth ) from the subfamily of the tiger moths ( Arctiinae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 35 to 40 millimeters. Your front wing ' are black. Their hind wings are there, only the inner side has a narrow orange stripe. The fur around the head and Selbiger are also black. The body is orange or yellow and has the back running black dots.

The caterpillars are black and have a red orang topline.

Occurrence

They occur in summer dry areas of central, eastern and southern Europe. They live on the sunny, dry rocky slopes, on nutrient-poor grasslands, sandy soils and fallow fields but also in sparse forests and parks.

Food of the caterpillars

The caterpillars feed on polyphagous from a variety of different shrubs and herbaceous plants such as:

  • Blackberries (Rubus spp.) Such as dewberry (Rubus caesius ) and Genuine blackberry (Rubus fruticosus )
  • Report ( Atriplex spp.)
  • Boraginaceae such as ( Cynoglossum spp.)
  • Plantain ( Plantago lanceolata)

Under farming conditions, they eat ( Taraxacum sp. ) And dandelion. They overwinter as a pupa.
