Epeius

Epeios (Greek Ἐπειός ) In Greek mythology, the son of Panopeus and the builder of the Trojan Horse.

In Homer's Iliad he appears at the funeral games of Patroclus as the winner in the fist fight against Euryalus and winner of a mule as well as an unsuccessful launcher iron ball of Eetion, for which he is ridiculed. In a choral lyric poet Stesichorus he is one of the water-carriers of the House of Atreus.

In the Odyssey, the goddess Pallas Athena appears to him in a dream and tells him to build the Trojan horse, which they themselves promised their assistance to accelerate completion of the work. With Athena's help and the support of the House of Atreus, he managed to complete his work within three days. According to Virgil, he was among the Greeks, who got into the horse.

According to later legends versions Epeios should be drawn after the Trojan war to Italy and have established there in Pisa and Metapontum.
