Epiphyllum laui is a flowering plant in the genus Epiphyllum from the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The epithet of the species honors the botanist Alfred Bernhard Lau.

Description

Epiphyllum laui growing both epiphytic and lithophytic. The basal shoots or side branch and to the base 1 to 2 centimeters wide, and cylindrical with a diameter of 0.6 to 0.9 centimeters. In the weichfleischigen shoots are flattened, linear and 5-7 inches wide. They are bright green and have a prominent midrib. Your margins are lobed and wavy. The located on the shoots hair-like, brownish yellow 1-5 spines are 3-5 millimeters long.

The funnel-shaped flowers open in the evening and stay at least two days open. They reach a length of 15-16 centimeters and a diameter of 14-16 centimeters. The outer bracts are reddish orange to yellow, the inner bracts are white with a yellowish tinge. The crimson fruits are oblong shaped and 4-8 inches long.

Distribution and systematics

Epiphyllum laui is common in the Mexican state of Chiapas at an altitude of 2200 meters. The first description was published in 1990 by William Myron Kimnach (* 1922).
