Epsilon Ursae Majoris

Alioth (after the Arab إلية, DMG Ilya, buttocks, fat tail ' ) is the name of the star ε Ursae Majoris ( Epsilon Ursae Majoris, short ε UMa ) in the handle of the Big Dipper. Alioth is a Variable star of type Alpha Canum Venaticorum whose apparent brightness like with a period of about five days between 1.7 and 1.8 may fluctuate. He belongs to the spectral type A0, its distance from the Earth is about 80 light-years.

With four other of the seven bright stars Alioth car belongs to the so-called bear power, a movement pile of about 150 stars distributed over half the sky. Our sun is in the range of this group, but moves in a different direction.
