Epulum Jovis

Iovis Epulum was a festival in honor of Jupiter during the Ludi plebeii, on the Ides of November, the 13th of November. This Epulum was hosted by the plebeian aediles. During the imperial period is also a celebration of the Ludi Romani while on September 13, the Ides of September, occupied.

The meal, on which all the Roman senators were involved, took place in the temple of Jupiter Capitolinus. September 13th is also the Foundation Day of the temple. At the banquet that took place in historical times in the form of a Lectisterniums, were next to Jupiter and Juno and Minerva, the other two deities of the Capitoline Triad, involved. The statues of deities were doing a bed of precious pillow and them the meal was symbolically sacrificed.

A failure of the celebration was seen as an expression of inner conflict or inability to act of the Senate.
