Erdmann August of Brandenburg-Bayreuth

Erdmann August von Brandenburg- Bayreuth ( born October 8, 1615 Bayreuth, † February 6, 1651 in the courtyard) was Prince of Brandenburg- Bayreuth.

Life

Erdmann August was a son of the Bayreuth Margrave Christian (1581-1655) from his marriage to Marie (1579-1649), daughter of Duke Albrecht Friedrich of Prussia. His two older brothers Georg Friedrich and Christian Ernst had died as children. His father and younger brother Georg Albrecht, a strained relationship developed.

Erdmann August married on December 8, 1641 in Ansbach his cousin Sophie of Brandenburg- Ansbach ( 1614-1646 ), daughter of Margrave Joachim Ernst of Brandenburg- Ansbach. After her death, he became engaged to Princess Sophie Agnes of Mecklenburg -Schwerin.

After he had received from his father in 1647 the offices Lauenstein, Lichtenberg and Thierenbach, he taught at Schloss Lauenstein an own royal household. A year later it came on his father's farm on the Plass castle into a pistol duel with his brother, which both survived unharmed. Erdmann August retired after fully back at Schloss Lauenstein and finally to the castle in the courtyard.

While preparing for his marriage Erdmann died August 35 at the age of his father in a " chest fever ". He was buried in the Bayreuth town church.
