Erfurt Union

The Epiphany alliance, named after the meeting place also Erfurt Union, was closed on May 26, 1849 between Prussia, Hanover and Saxony. Do not confuse it with the Three Emperors' League and the four royal alliance.

The goal of the newly formed alliance was the unification of all the German princes to the exclusion of Austria. Baden is joining the Alliance in May 1849. King Frederick William IV of Prussia made ​​an accession of Grand Duke Leopold of Baden as a condition for military support in the fight against the rebellious revolutionaries in Baden. In the summer of 1849 except Bavaria and Württemberg all the princes of the Union had joined. A total of 27 countries joined the alliance. The Union has been abandoned due to massive Austrian pressure on 29 November 1850 by the Olomouc punctuation.
