Eric Frey

Eric Frey ( born 1963 in Vienna) is an Austrian journalist and political scientist. He is editor of the Viennese newspaper Der Standard Austria and correspondent of the London Financial Times and the London business magazine The Economist.

Life and work

Eric Frey was born in 1963 to Jewish parents who had escaped the Nazis by fleeing, in Vienna. He went in 1981 to the United States to Public Affairs ( International Relations ) at Princeton University to study. He graduated in 1986 with a master thesis on the German -German relations of the 1980s.

There followed a career as a journalist. From 1986 to 1990 Frey was a reporter and finally office manager of AP -Dow Jones News Service in Frankfurt. In 1991 he moved to Vienna daily Der Standard. During this time, in 1993, he wrote his first non-university book - a treatise on the election campaign of Bill Clinton by considering the cycles Arthur M. Schlesinger's theory.

When he became standard in 1996 to Head of the foreign policy. In 1998 he moved into this function into the business section. Since 2002, Frey is one of the chiefs of service and economic policy commentator.

After the turn of the millennium Frey began in Vienna doctoral studies in political science. His dissertation was on this 2003/2004 in New Orleans, where he was from 2001 to 2002 Visiting Professor at the Marshall Plan Chair for Austrian Studies at the University of New Orleans.
