Erich Ott

Erich Ott ( born December 3, 1944 in Oberammergau ) is a German sculptor and medalist.

He is, according to Heinz Hoyer, the most famous coin designers in Germany and performs as a monogram his initials Œ.

From 1959-1963 Ott attended the State College for wood carving at Oberammergau, and then studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he was a student of Josef Henselmann and Hans Ladner. Since graduating in 1969, he lives and works as a freelance sculptor with a studio in Munich in the district Maxvorstadt. Since its founding in 1988, Erich Ott is part of the artistic circle of Medalists Munich, a consortium of experienced Medalists.

For the first time in 1972, he took part in an official Münzwettbewerb, in which he finished 3rd. The first of it designed and then minted coin was the DM 5 coin to commemorate the 200th birthday of Carl Friedrich Gauss. There were other commemorative coins of the Federal Republic of Germany in the D-Mark. In 1990 he designed the 2- DM- current coin with the portrait of Franz Josef Strauss. Even after the introduction of the euro designed Erich Ott some commemorative coins, as well as the value side of the German 100 - euro commemorative coin for the " World Cup 2006" and the 2- euro commemorative coin "Hamburg" the states series from the year 2008. Already on 11 December. 2008 he won the Münzwettbewerb for the 2- euro commemorative coin "Bavaria" of the states series, which appeared in 2012.

In addition, designed and produced Ott medals, which can be seen for example in the exhibitions of the Dresden State Art Collections and the National Coin Collection Munich.
