Erih Koš

Erih Koš, Erich Kosh ( born April 15, 1913 in Sarajevo, † 25 May, 2010 Belgrade ) was a Yugoslavian and Serbian writer and translator, who also used the pseudonym E. Minić.

Life and work

He studied law at the University of Belgrade and was since 1935 where he worked as a lawyer. In 1938, he was convicted as a Communist in 1941 he went into the war of resistance and has held various cultural and political functions after the Second World War in communist Yugoslavia and was briefly a diplomat. Koš was a member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts ( SANU ). He lived most recently in Belgrade.

Koš wrote mainly novels and short stories that treat themes of resistance or problems of Yugoslav society. He criticized the petty-bourgeois behavior by in his often allegorical satires (Wal - hype, Ice, The Sparrows of Van Pe) and psychological novels (Montenegro - Montenegro, Mreže ) represented both collective psychosis as well as the actions of individuals. In addition to the narrative work he wrote witty essays and translated Goethe and Chamisso from German.

With Mreže he won in 1967 the prestigious NIN Award.
