Erik Moseholm

Erik Moseholm ( born May 13, 1930 in Fredericia, † October 11, 2012 ) was a Danish jazz bassist and composer, who at times the Radio Jazz Group of Danmarks Radio from 1992 to 1997, he became the Rytmisk Conservatory of Music.

Life and work

Moseholm had as a teenager his own band. In 1949, he moved to Copenhagen, where he scored with Max Brüel, Jørgen Lausen and Jørgen Ryg of the pioneers of modern jazz in Denmark, but first worked in the field of classical music, such as with the chamber music ensemble Societas Musica and as a soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of Copenhagen. In 1954/55 he was a member of the Radio Dance Orchestra of Danmarks Radio, and then worked at Ib Glindemann (1957) and Finn Savery, before he founded his own bands. He became a student of Oscar Pettiford, accompanied American guest soloists such as Don Byas or Eric Dolphy and encouraged the Danish Broadcasting on the establishment of a workshop ensemble with the leading jazz musicians of the country. He led this Radio Jazz Group from 1962 to 1966; then he was the administrative head of the DR Big Band. He also played at international festivals in Scandinavia and wrote theater and film music. Moseholm has also written a kind of textbook, Jazz Bass Facing that worked up the various developmental stages of Pettifords solo playing and compositional style. He also was the founding rector of 1996 resulting from merger of other institutions Rytmisk Conservatory of Music.

He worked as a musician with his wife, the author and actress Vigga Bro, together.

Prizes and awards

Moseholm 1958 was honored as the " Danish Jazz Musician of the Year " and in 1960 at the Antibes Jazz Festival as a leading " European Jazz Bassist of the Year". In 1998, the Dannebrog Medal he was awarded for his achievements.
