Erik Nilsson

Erik Henry Sixten Nilsson ( born August 6, 1916 in Malmö Limhamn; † 9 September 1995 Höllviken, community Vellinge ) was a Swedish football player.

Career

Nilsson played in his youth at Limhamns IF before moving in 1934 to Malmö FF in the Allsvenskan. Here he played until 1953. During this time he was five times Swedish champion and cup winner. An offer of AC Milan, he struck out.

Nilsson was also 57 times in the jersey of the Swedish national team on the court. The defender took part in several tournaments for the Blågult. At the World Championships in 1938, he was with the selection of fourth. At the Olympics 1948 he celebrated the biggest international triumph, as in the final game with a 3-1 - win over Yugoslavia succeeded the Olympic victory. Two years later he reached with the national team to third place in the World Cup 1950. At the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, the bronze medal was won, as the German selection in the match for third place with 2-0 was defeated again.

In 1950 he was awarded the Guldbollen as the best Swedish footballer of the year, added to the SFS Hall Of Fame in 2003.
