Erik Van Nevel

Erik Van Nevel is a Belgian singer and conductor. He is a nephew of Paul Van Nevel.

He studied music at Lemmensinstituut in Leuven, at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels and at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp.

Van Nevel is both founder and conductor of the choir Currende, the chamber ensemble Currende Consort and Baroque Orchestra Concerto Currende and also led the Blasensemble Concerto Palatino. He was the choir director of St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral ( Brussels) from 1983 to 2000 and founded the Chapel of Sancti Michaelis. From 1980 to 1985 he was the assistant of the Flemish Radio Choir Dirigents.

Van Nevels focus was on the Flemish Renaissance music. An important record of him is the 10 - CD series Flemish polyphony to the book Flemish Polyphony by musicologist Ignace Bossuyt.

He was director of the research project the sound of the cathedral on acoustic and performance space conflicts.
