The Scheuchzers cotton grass ( Eriophorum scheuchzeri ) belongs to the family of the Sedge family ( Cyperaceae ). It is also called the Alps - cotton grass. The cotton grass through its use far into the water advancing long processes significantly to the silting up of alpine waters. The scientific name honors the naturalist Johann Jakob Scheuchzer.
Features
The perennial, herbaceous plants reach heights of growth between 10 and 40 centimeters. This Hemikryptophyt forms very long reddish-brown foothills. The leaf blades are short with smooth boundary.
Bloom time is from June to September.
Occurrence
As the site alpine bogs, ponds and siltation zones are called standing waters over 1,500 meters above sea level ( subalpine to alpine altitude level ). The plant grows on wet, more or less oligotrophic peat.
