David Heinrich Hoppe

David Heinrich Hoppe (* December 15 1760 in Bruchhausen- Vilsen; † August 1, 1846 in Regensburg ) was a German physician, botanist and pharmacist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Hoppe ".

Life

Hoppe was born as the youngest of 16 children of the purchase and trade man Arend Hoppe and his wife Elizabeth, a daughter Diepholzer pharmacist. His siblings took him early to school so that he could already read at age four and " recite ". He attended Latin school and then learned the pharmacy in Celle. As a pharmacist 's assistant, he came over Hamburg, Halle and Wolfenbüttel in 1786 after Regensburg. The Danube and Jurassic Flora told him a rich field for his research work.

1798 Hoppe visited Salzburg for the first time to botanizing on the lower mountain. He should return to 1843 per year with only a few exceptions, and ascended to the day three years before his death the last time the Salzburg Hochthron.

He put herbaria to, sent the collected fine specimens to professional colleagues and gained great contributions to the study of the alpine flora.

Work

Hoppe founded on May 14, 1790, the rain Freiburgische Botanical Society, the first botanical society in Bavaria, the oldest existing botanical society in the world. From 1812 until his death in 1846 he was its director / CEO.

From 1790 to 1804 he published his Botanical paperback that from 1805 to 1811 as the New Botanical Paperback appeared, and, under the editorship of the Botanical Society in Regensburg, the Botanical newspaper (b. 1-6, 1802-1807 ).

From 1818 to 1834 he was the sole and 1834-1842 together with August Emanuel Fürnrohr editor of the scientific journal flora. At times, he also had the editorship of memoranda of rain Freiburgische Botanical Society (name starting with volume 29: Hoppea ) holds.

  • He was the genus Hoppea Willd honor. (belonging to the tribe Chironieae ( G.Don ) finite ) named the plant family of the Gentian Family ( Gentianaceae ).
  • The so-called memoranda of rain Freiburgische Botanical Society, where Hoppe temporarily held the editorship since 1971 ( starting with volume 29) are labeled Hoppea.
