Ermanno Giglio-Tos

Ermanno Giglio - Tos ( born August 25, 1865 in Chiaverano, Province of Turin; † August 18, 1926 in Turin ) was an Italian zoologist and professor at the University of Turin.

Life

Giglio - Tos studied from 1886 to 1896 in Turin at Michele Lessona, where he studied mainly systematic zoology. In 1902 he was appointed professor of zoology and comparative anatomy at the University of Cagliari, where he founded the Instituto di Biologia Marina in San Bartolomeo, the realization of which, however, took decades to complete. Then he worked as a professor of zoology and anatomy of vertebrates at the University of Florence, where he remained for two years, then to occupy the chair of anatomy and physiology at the University of Turin. He then returned for seven years after Cagliari and took in December 1925 as a professor of zoology in Turin.

Giglio - Tos ' research included vertebrate anatomy, hematology, cell biology and developmental work. In addition, he worked continuously with systematic work, especially in Diptera (Diptera ), where he first focused on European and African, later on Central American species. In addition, he also worked on Spring terror (Orthoptera ), beetles ( Coleoptera) and Hemiptera ( Hemiptera ). All type specimens of the species described by him in the Zoological Museum of Turin store.

In addition to his professional scientific publications, he also wrote textbooks for biology teaching in secondary schools and provision manuals for birds and butterflies for beginners and amateurs. Some of his developmental mechanics studies have been published in German.
