After her marriage to actor Carl Wery she retired from acting and wrote screenplays since 1943. Even as a writer, they often remained attached to the Bavarian local color. With a total of 22 scenarios, 16 of which were filmed, she was wearing a not insignificant part in the character of the West German cinema of the 1950s. She wrote screenplays for home movies, period films, comedies and romantic movies, where they remained little known personally. Her husband, Carl Wery played the title roles in The perjury Bauer and Sebastian Kneipp. When her most important work applies the multi-award winning film drama at the gallows love depends.

In later years they moved under the name " Ernestine Wery " in the writing. She wrote several novels, especially detective novels, some of which have their screenplays for the crime series Tatort as a basis.

It was on the old Bogenhausener cemetery in Munich, next to her husband, buried. ( Grave wall on the right No. 1)
