Ernakulam ( Malayalam: എറണാകുളം Eṟaṇākuḷam [ erəɳa kuɭʌm ː ] ) is a part of the city of Kochi ( Cochin ) in the southern Indian state of Kerala. The modern Ernakulam is on the mainland east of the situated on a peninsula historic center of Kochi and is separated from it by the Vembanad Lake. Kochi and Ernakulam are both assumed by the administrative city of Kochi ( Cochin Corporation of ) and together form the most populous city in the state.

Ernakulam is the municipal seat of Kochi, administrative center of the district of Ernakulam and the economic capital Zentralkeralas, here you will find modern facilities and newer buildings. With the highest telephone density in India Ernakulam has a relatively high indicator of prosperity: the residents of the district have the highest purchasing power throughout India. Is proud of the district of Ernakulam in the high literacy rate of 94 percent: the best national education system has mainly meant that girls and women also participate almost equally in it.

On Mount St. Thomas at Kakkanad is the seat of the Major Archbishop of the Syro - Malabar Church and the Archdiocese of Ernakulam- Angamaly of his seat.

In the suburb Chendamangalam to " Paliam Palace " is a Hindu temple, a church and a mosque. Near front of the town is another Island: Willingdon Iceland. It is connected by the " Venduruthy Bridge" with the place. Here is a base for the Indian Navy and the seaport, which was built in the 13th century.
