Ernest le Pelley

Ernest le Pelley, 16th Seigneur of Sark (* 1801, † 1849) was from 1839 to 1849 Seigneur of Sark.

1844, when he desperately looking for funds to continue the operation of a silver mine, he obtained permission from the crown of the feudal Sark for £ 4,000 to John Allaire, a local privateers to pledge. 1845 collapsed the ceiling of the deepest tunnel. The company, however, was not insured and was eventually closed in 1847. Le Pelleys heritage, Pierre Carey le Pelley, was not to maintain the mortgage payments in the position and was forced to the Seigneur of Sark to Marie Collings title, John Allaires daughter and heiress, for £ 6000 to sell.
