Ernest Pohl

Ernst or Ernest Pohl (Polish until 1990, Ernest Pol, born November 3, 1932 in Ruda, Poland, † 12 September 1995 Hausach, Germany ) was a German - Polish footballer from Upper Silesia.

Pohl scored 39 goals in 46 appearances for the Polish national team. He was active for Slavia Ruda Śląska, Orzel Łódź, Legia Warszawa and especially for Gornik Zabrze in the Polish league. With Gornik, he won a total of eight times the champion title.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification, he finally moved over the age of 58 in 1990 to Germany, where his wife and daughter had been living for some time. He eventually died at not quite 63 years in Hausach. He is still the top scorer of the Polish football league.

In the presence of his wife Marianne Pohl Stadium Gornik Zabrze was named after him in 2004.
