Ernie Pieterse

Ernest " Ernie " Pieterse ( born July 4, 1938 in Parows -Belleville ) is a former South African racing driver.

Pieterse was in the late 1950s, one of the most successful touring car drivers of the South African saloon car scene. In 1958 he was an Alfa Romeo third in the edge -9- hour race. In 1961 he celebrated with wins at Kyalami and the Grand Prix of Rhodesia his first success in the single-seater.

In 1962 he made ​​his debut at the Grand Prix of South Africa in the Formula 1 World Championship. With a private Lotus 21 he was in East London with a gap of 11 rounds on the winner Graham Hill tenth. In the same year he won the South African single-seater championship in which he regularly participated in by the end of 1964.
