Ernst Blasius

Ernst Carl Friedrich Blasius ( born November 20, 1802 in Berlin, † July 11, 1875 in Halle an der Saale ) was a German surgeon.

Life

Ernst Carl Friedrich Blasius was born the son of businessman Christian Friedrich and Henriette Sophia Schultzen on 20 November 1802 in Berlin. Preformed on the Joachimsthal high school, he moved into 1818, the military medical training facility at the University of Berlin, the Pépinière. His Doctor of Medicine took place on 5 April 1823., He served the next four years as a military doctor. Then he completed his state examination, but because of his " superior [n ] surgical [n ] talent " was counseled him to pursue academic careers. He habilitated in 1829 at the University of Halle as a surgical lecturer. In Berlin, he became a member of the Masonic Lodge " to Pilgrim ."

The following year he was appointed extraordinary professor of surgery. In 1831 he was also provisionally Head of the Department. Promoted to full professor in 1834, he was at the same time also the final head of the clinic and he made a name for himself as a doctor and academics. But his reports from the University Hospital, as well as his other scientific work has been well received. He was also privy medical officer since 1853. In addition, we honored him with the Red Eagle second-class myself oak leaves, the Crown, Second Class, the Order of Leopold and the House Order of Albert the Bear first class.

Blaise has been dealing with ophthalmology and bone diseases. He also developed a prosthetic replacement of lost body parts, developed surgical techniques for reconstructive surgery and provided new insights in the field of blood transfusion, the dislocations of various joints, the doctrine of necrosis and the " sensibility neuroses ". And also provided for an expansion of the university hospital in terms of its areas of interest.

In 1867 Blasius left for health reasons, the university hospital. In his 36 years there ongoing activity he had treated 80,720 patients and performed 4,267 major operations. His 50 -year-old doctor, he celebrated the anniversary on April 5, 1873 former students and colleagues. On July 11, 1875 Ernst Blasius died 72 years old in Halle. He was on the Halle Stadtgottesacker buried ( infield, Division II ). His pupil, Richard von Volkmann was as his successor surgery professor.
