Ernst-Kirchweger-Haus

The Ernst Kirchweger House ( EKH ) is an occupied since 1990 in Wien favorites. The building is a far beyond the borders of Vienna also known center of the autonomous scene and is home to some politically, culturally and socially engaged groups and projects. On 7 November 2008 the occupation was declared over after all the groups represented in the House have signed leases.

History

The building in the Wielandgasse 2-4 was in the 1920s (according to Dehio in 1931 ) built by Czech and Slovak workers, designed by Josef Hofbauer and William Baumgarten as Comenius school for children of Slovaks and Czechs in Vienna. It is one of the oldest reinforced concrete buildings of Vienna. The building is also a regular at this time recorded stage was housed with the Wieland theater.

In 1945 the property has possession of the Communist Party of Austria. On June 23, 1990, the house was occupied and named after the Communists and concentration camp survivors Ernst Kirchweger. Several projects of the house financed by the municipality of Vienna.
